A major part of YBT's remit is to foster and develop research into yoga and yoga therapy, since critical scientific research is necessary to gain acceptance of yoga and yoga therapy and to explore how they can complement modern medicine. YBT’s Founder/Director was himself a research scientist before taking up this work.

In the 1980’s YBT assembled a bibliography of research papers on yoga and meditation; and carried out a survey on the health benefits of yoga, and trials of yoga therapy for diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. Since then our main efforts have been directed towards developing its Yoga Therapy Diploma Course, and its Centre in London for the practice of yoga therapy. However, we plan to resume research over the coming year, and shall be publishing the results of a pilot study on low back pain.

We wish to be in contact with research workers in fields relating to yoga and yoga therapy worldwide. Please send us reprints of research publications, unpublished dissertations and reports, and notices of research conferences. And let us know if you have a website with which we can form links.

We will keep you posted (on this Website) about developments in our research programme.
