A major part of YBT's remit is to foster and develop research into yoga and yoga therapy. Critical scientific research is necessary to gain acceptance of yoga and yoga therapy at this time of 'evidence-based medicine'.
In the 1980’s YBT assembled a bibliography of research papers on yoga and meditation; and carried out a survey on the health benefits of yoga, and trials of yoga therapy for diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.
From 1994 to 2009 YBTwas fully occupied in developing its Yoga Therapy Diploma Course, and running a Centre in London for the practice of yoga therapy.
YBT is now actively engaged in research and development on yoga therapy for low back pain, and is planning a pilot trial of yoga for herniated disc. This will open the way to grant applications for a full-scale randomised, controlled trial.
YBT is urgently seeking donations to fund this pilot study and pump prime this line of research. YBT's Director, ›Robin Monro, > will be happy to discuss YBT's research plans with potential donors (robin@yogatherapy.org). |
